Bodog.com Hosts Benefit Tournaments For the Victims of Hurricane Katrina

Online benefit tournaments will be hosted by Bodog.com, to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. All the proceeds of these tournaments will be going to the Red Cross. Founder and CEO, Calvin Ayre says that it was the least Bodog.com could do to ease the agony of those most affected by this hurricane. This hurricane has wreaked havoc across the U.S Gulf Coast and affected thousands of people. As per initial estimates, the damages run to the tune of $25 billion. Almost eighty percent of New Orleans is under water and the death toll is still rising. Bodog’s benefit poker tournaments will be running daily between September 8-12. Poker enthusiasts can now play the game for fun and contribute towards a charitable cause too!

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the many victims caught in the devastating path of the hurricane,” says Calvin Ayre, Founder and  CEO of Bodog.com. Bodog will match and donate all of the players’ fees from the poker tournaments to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund.

The Final Six at the WPT Legends of Poker Tournament

The largest field in World Poker Tour history has been at the 2005 Legends of Poker tournament at the Bicycle Casino, this year. A record number of 839 players signed up for this $5000 buy-in event. In the 2004 event, Doyle Brunson won the true legend. This year’s huge field comprised of some of the top ranking players in the game, but none made it to the final table. It was felt this year a new name will go on to become a legend. One of the players at the table was Kenna James, who is very likely to become a pro. Tod Phillips, the maker of films like “Old School” and “Starsky & Hutch” was also present. There was Tim Phan who may go on to make a name for himself, after the World Series of Poker Main Event is televised while the other three players were unknown names in the poker arena. Alex Kahner who was actually playing his first tournament went on to become the winner.

The World Poker Tour had just set its second record with this tournament. It took 58 hands (over a period of two hours and twenty minutes) to eliminate the first player. No other WPT final table held together that long before losing someone.
