After a tiring week in the office, a weekend with your girlfriend lounging on the sofa or an evening in a local bar may constitute the limit of your ambition. It’s all too easy, however, to fall into patterns in a relationship and lose a sense of spontaneity. Put the spark back in your romance with this list of tips for evenings out and trips away.

Close to home: eating out

Resist the temptation to return to the same haunts time and again. Why not throw some new ingredients into the mix and try a change of venue or an exotic new cuisine? Open-kitchen sushi bars, where diners are treated to the sight of chefs skilfully preparing their food, is a novel twist on an a classic theme. Alternatively, book a table at a circus or burlesque-themed restaurant and take in a lavish show whilst enjoying your meal.

Local: art exhibitions

Whether or not you and your partner are avid fans of art, a visit to an art gallery is an interesting way to imbibe some culture. Keep an eye open for exhibitions in your area. Any airings featuring famous artists and pieces are always popular, so book in advance and come prepared to queue. You could incorporate a trip to an exhibition with a weekend away. From Paris and Madrid to London and Berlin, European cities are home to a wealth of fantastic museums and galleries.

Further afield – weekend trips

Continental Europe is never more than a short flight away. With its picturesque cityscapes and settings, the continent offers many opportunities for romantic adventures. Paris, perhaps the most romantic of all European cities, is just a train away for those close to London. What’s more, it takes less time to travel from St. Pancras to Gar du Nord than it does to take the train from London to Manchester. Instead of a glass of wine in a gastro-pub you could soon be sipping champagne atop the Eiffel Tower or shopping on the Champs Elysees.
Whether you spend the weekend abroad or at home, why not get a credit card from American Express to make payment easy? American Express offer a range of great rewards credit cards that come with exclusive membership benefits such as cashback, British Airways Avios points, Nectar points and much more, making your money go further.
